The bleary-eyed travelers awake! Sleep came in little pieces for most during our night travels - but we were able to take in a hearty IHOP breakfast in Eugene, Oregon this morning. Never a dull moment - we await a locksmith to rekey our bottom storage lockers...hopefully the last hiccup before a good night's sleep in Anaheim this evening.
More later...hoping to catch a few winks this afternoon!
Much later...8am the following morning...
"The rest of the morning went by uneventfully, apart from a couple of fun times with word games and some guitar songs. The afternoon saw a quick pit stop in Yreka, California. We stopped in Yreka, California lunch, and then some of us ran up a mountain and climbed some boulders, and the view was absolutely amazing from on top of one of the larger rocks. Hopping back on the bus, we continued down the highway, singing songs, talking, sleeping, and having a great time while enjoying the amazing
mountainous scenery. We stopped in Williams, California for dinner, then took off yet again, watching Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark and then getting some gas. It was at this point that all of us learned that we wouldn't be arriving in Anaheim until 4 or 5 a.m. Wow. But we all just buckled up and watched Osmosis Jones for the next little while. That's what's happening now. Most of us are planning to catch some sleep during the night, but trying to do this with the cramped leg room on the bus is difficult. Good night, all!!"
Showered, shaved, and eating our continental breakfast. Thanks for all your prayers and encouragements...reading them out to the team on the bus to many cheers!
Pray for safe journey across the Mexican border today!

Mr. Rempel says, "If the bus was Volkswagen, you wouldn't have had a rad problem!":p Seriously, though, we are hoping you get the much needed sleep tonight in Anaheim and something for the afternoon to get you through. Currently it is -5 on our thermometer and the wind chill is a balmy -25. But really, I know you're jealous and missing good ol' PG!! Blessings for today and sweet dreams to all!!
ReplyDeleteMr and Mrs. Rempel
Thanks for keeping us updated. We will continue to pray for safety as you travel. Hopefully, everyone can get a few winks in this afternoon!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Moses & Mitra
Hey people,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the updates. I hope there won't be any more technical difficulties, and that you all might get some sleep! ;P I think right now its about -15, and I'm not daring to go outside. It's so interesting to hear what happens on each day of your travels, but I guess it would be interesting to be crammed on a bus with with 30 teens + 15ish adults. Have fun, be safe. We're praying for you guys.
Hey guys! Great to hear you are all safe. Sounds like you are very tired! Lots of people are prayin for your guys safety and all of the great stuff you'll be doing to help the people in Mexico. God Bless you guys :)!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteps. I envy the heat you guys are getting
Hello Everyone,
ReplyDeleteWe are constantly thinking and praying for you as a team of God's workers,as well as for you as individuals. We are missing you dearly (especially you Katrina), but we know that you are all having the time of your life in your challenges, successes, and funny moments. As you have heard, it is freezing up here and we, like others, are envious of your climate. At any rate, know that our prayers, as well as the churches' prayers are with you. Now go and have a fantastic time forging new relationships with each other and the people that will cross your path for the next 9 days. God bless, Stephanie and Mr. and Mrs. Toninato :)
Hello everyone: (those on the bus and the readers at home)
ReplyDeleteWe (Lorne and Ann Welwood)only found out about the trip and this blog today from Sherry Toninato after speaking with her mother. Sherry's mother has been a good friend of Ann (Leboe) Welwood since they were in elementary school in PG.
Lorne joined the Board in the 1970's while Cedars was still a dream; the Board which acquired the present school site, hired the first principal and staff (you still have Mr. Rempel from those days) and "contributed" our two daughters, Charmy and Tammy, to the first student body.
Now one of them, Charmy Unger, with her husband Stan and 6 kids have been in Vicente Guerrero for 5.5 years with International Disciple Training Ministries. They currently also have 9 Mexican children in their care. They live quite near to the "Big Orphanage" in Vicente Guerrero, and they know Irma Fennel where your group will be staying. In fact, the first time Ann and Lorne visited them, we spent one day chopping vegetables and making a huge cauldron of soup which our son-in-law Stan along with Irma took to one of the migrant worker camps. We have never actually been the camps ourselves, but I think your group is in for a an eye-opening adventure with Irma.
Our family down there now knows that you are coming and would LOVE to connect with you. Two of our grandchildren, Nathan (15) and Carissa (13) are the ages of your students and are excellent translators. The attend school at the IDT base. Irma knows how to connect with them.
Another Cedars connection: Mrs. Sue Card used to teach French and Music(?) at Cedars in the 80's. She and Tom have led groups on mission trips to IDT in Vicente Guerrero now for years. I think they will be there this spring break. Their daughter Alyson with husband Greg Schulz are also missionaries there.
If you are into divine "coincidences" there are a few to ponder.
Hi daddy.Imiss you.Joel
ReplyDeleteWow! I am sure you will be very grateful to be sleeping in the beds in Mexico tonight. I wonder what the bus smells like? Are the grade 10 boys remembering to at least brush their teeth? ;) Blessings for a great day!!
ReplyDeleteHey everyone!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but I just went through all of your pictures on Google, and you guys look REALLY funny. I nearly died laughing. Feel free to pass to the others how funny you look. Have fun! (Heh heh...)

ReplyDeleteMay you have a wonderful day and praying for you that the trip accross the border will be a smooth one!
Love,
The Kostamos
Hi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteWell it's -20 here plus a nasty wind chill, so at least 40 degrees difference from where you all are! Sounds like you are having some good times. Miss you Jacob (not sure Evi does....yet)
We are praying for all of you and that your presence in Mexico is a blessing to all you come in contact with.
Blessings

Hopefully you had a little rest in Anaheim and were at least able to shower!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to be able to connect with you this way!
Phil and I are in Seattle and woke up to very snowy conditions. We are jealous as we see the weather in Vicente is 24 C.
We continue to pray for your safety and I bet you can't wait for a good night's sleep tonight.
A big hello to Craig and Christie, hope all is well with both of you and we miss you lots.
Thanks again Shane and Dave for your commitment to taking these kids on a trip they will never forget and will change their lives we're sure!
Have a great day!
Phil and Arlene Pudlas
This is Joel Kesler's mom!
ReplyDeleteSO relieved to hear that your bus has been "healed" through good mechanical surgeons and ditch water. :)
Well Jesus used "mud on the eyes " to heal a blind person!
Sleep...yes grab it when you can.
I am praying that God and his angels will refresh each of you with sleep and rest every day as you serve the folks in Mexico.
In the name of Jesus I pray for a hedge of protection around your entire group and your drivers that you will be in peace and unafraid as you work and share Jesus in Mexico.
Our GOd is a GREAT GOD!!
Peace
Susan Kesler
